Free Online CSV Editor, Edit Rows and Columns In Place

Edit a CSV in your browser without a spreadsheet changing your data. Click a cell to change it, insert and remove rows and columns, rename or move headings, and undo anything. Values are stored exactly as you type them, so a product code of 007 stays 007 and a long number does not turn into scientific notation.

How to Edit a CSV File Online

A few steps, and nothing is uploaded.

1
Drop the file in One CSV. Your original is never modified; you download an edited copy at the end.
2
Click a cell and type Press Tab or Enter to move on. Click a heading to rename it. Every change can be undone.
3
Add or remove rows and columns The buttons on each row insert, duplicate, move or delete it. Column controls live in the heading.
4
Download the result The whole file is saved, not just the page you are looking at. The writing options control the separator and the line endings.

What to Know About Editing a CSV

What a spreadsheet does to your data, and what paging means.

A spreadsheet changes values you never touched, and that is the reason this page exists. Open a CSV in Excel and a product code of 0074 becomes 74, a long order number becomes scientific notation, and a value like 1-2 can become a date. Save it back and those changes are now your data. Nothing here parses a value: what you typed is what is written.
Undo covers every change, including structural ones. Inserting a column, deleting a row, renaming a heading and editing a cell all go on the same stack, so a mistaken delete is one keystroke away from being fixed. Control Z works as well as the button.
Paging is about your browser, not about the file. Putting fifty thousand rows of input boxes into a page makes it unusable, so you see one page at a time. Every edit applies to the whole file in memory, and the download contains all of it, not just the page in view.
A cell can contain a comma, a quote or a line break. You can type any of them, and the quoting is handled when the file is written, which is exactly what a text editor cannot do safely.
Renaming a heading does not touch the values under it. Nothing is matched by name here, so a rename is purely cosmetic and safe. That is not true in the bulk tools, where a renamed column is a column they can no longer find.
There are no formulas, and there will not be. This is an editor for the contents of a CSV file, and a CSV file has no formulas in it: only text. If you need calculation, the pivot table and the statistics pages do the common cases without turning your file into a spreadsheet.

Key Features & Capabilities

What this tool does, and what it deliberately does not.

Edit in place Click any cell and type, with Tab and Enter moving on as you would expect.
Undo everything Cell edits, inserts, deletes, renames and moves all on one undo stack, with Control Z.
Values kept exactly Leading zeros, long numbers and anything that looks like a date are stored as typed.
Rows and columns Insert, duplicate, move and delete, from controls on the row and in the heading.
Jump to a value Type something and it takes you to the page holding it, which large files need.
Nothing is uploaded The file is edited inside this tab, so there is no copy of your data anywhere else.

About the CSV Editor

Everybody edits CSVs in a spreadsheet, and everybody has been bitten by it. The classic case is a column of codes with leading zeros: open the file, and 0074 is now 74, because the program decided the column was numeric. Save it, and the original is gone. The same thing happens to long reference numbers, which become scientific notation, and to anything that resembles a date in the wrong locale.

The infuriating part is that none of it is announced. The file opens, the grid looks right at a glance, and the damage is in the cells you were not looking at. By the time an import rejects the file or a lookup fails, the original has been overwritten and the only clue is that some values look shorter than they used to.

An editor that treats every cell as text avoids the entire class of problem. There is nothing clever about it: no parsing, no type guessing, no locale. Add undo, row and column operations, and paging so that a large file does not freeze the page, and you have the tool most people actually wanted when they reached for a spreadsheet. What is deliberately missing is formulas, because a CSV has none, and pretending otherwise is how a simple file becomes a spreadsheet problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Undo, paging, leading zeros and saving.

Because Excel reformats values you did not touch. Leading zeros are dropped, long numbers become scientific notation, and some values become dates. It happens silently on opening, and saving makes it permanent.

Yes. Cell edits, inserts, deletes, renames and moves are all on one stack, and Control Z works as well as the button.

Yes, all of it. Paging is only about keeping the page responsive; the whole file is held in memory and the download contains every row.

Yes. Type whatever you need and the quoting is handled when the file is written. This is the part that makes editing a CSV in a text editor risky.

No, and that is on purpose. A CSV file contains text, not formulas, so there is nothing for a formula to be saved as. The pivot table and statistics pages cover the common calculations without changing your file.

Only the heading changes; the values under it are untouched. Nothing on this page matches columns by name, so renaming here is safe, unlike in the bulk tools where other files are matched by heading.
