About the PDF Margin Adder
This tool adds white space around the pages of a PDF. Room on the left for a ring binder, room at the bottom for a signature, room all round for a document that will be trimmed, or space in the margin for somebody to write notes in a meeting.
There are only two honest ways to make that room, and the page offers both. Growing the page keeps everything on it at its original size and makes the paper larger, which is what binding wants and what changes the paper size. Shrinking the content keeps the paper exactly as it was and pulls everything inwards, which keeps A4 as A4 and makes the type slightly smaller. Neither is better; they answer different questions, and the page says which is which.
Mirrored margins are there for anything that will be bound. The wider margin has to sit on the binding edge, and that edge swaps side on every other page once a document is printed double sided. Setting that by hand is tedious and easy to get backwards.
